Menstrual education and hygiene awareness session was held at SVCK School for girl students of Class 7 to 10 to break barriers and facilitate safe, hygienic practices. The session was handled by our speaker Dr. Ramya Naresh. She guided the students and cleared all of the doubts. The session aimed to provide young girls with correct information about menstruation, its biological mechanism, emotional effect, and period hygiene habits. Students were walked through the need to be clean, how to properly use the sanitary products and dispose of them, and how to deal with pain or anomalies. The session also touched on myths and misconceptions around menstruation and invited the girls to ask questions and provide comments freely. Through participatory discussions, visuals, and demonstrations, the facilitators made sure that the facts were easy to understand, age-relevant, and easy to relate to. Special care was taken to develop a supportive and non-judgmental setting where the girls could feel safe and empowered. Emphasis was placed on empathy, body positivity, and self-care throughout the session. After the informative session, interactive icebreaker games were conducted to relax the mood and foster camaraderie among participants. Word building and a fun game of Antakshari procured smiles and giggles, relaxing the girls and facilitating bonding with each other. The games not only constituted a break from the monotony but also assisted in reinforcing confidence and belongingness. Overall, the session was a success, and the students were more informed, confident, and prepared to deal with their menstrual health with dignity and awareness.
