On 23rd September 2025, the Rotaract Club of SSMRV College and our sister club, the Rotaract Club of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, came together to host Mind Matters: Understanding Alzheimer’s - an online awareness session that left every participant with a deeper sense of empathy and understanding. Held on Google Meet, the event became more than just an educational platform; it was a heartfelt reminder of the human stories behind a medical condition that affects millions worldwide. The session was led by WG CDR DP Sabharwal, a veteran and a proud member of our partner Rotary - Rotary Club of Bangalore Cantonment. With grace, humility, and striking honesty, he unfolded the complexities of Alzheimer’s, the most common cause of dementia. His explanation went far beyond medical facts - he described how the disease gradually erodes memory, thinking, and behavior, and yet, it was his personal reflections that truly touched hearts. Speaking about his beloved wife’s journey with Alzheimer’s, he shared candid anecdotes that gave participants an intimate glimpse into the emotional challenges families face. This blend of scientific clarity and deeply human storytelling created a powerful impact, making the audience not just more informed, but also more compassionate. The Q&A session that followed was filled with curiosity, respect, and gratitude, as participants sought to understand how they too could play a role in supporting those affected. In the spirit of “Uniting for Good,” inspired by the RI President’s call, the event ended with a collective sense of purpose - that awareness is the first step toward empathy, and empathy is the foundation for action. Mind Matters was not just a session; it was an emotional journey of learning, sharing, and standing together for a cause that truly matters.
