On the 30th of July, our club had its orientation session for the year. The session was conducted by our orientation trainer IPP Rtr Madhumita Narayanan, ZRR RI 3191, with the presence of Rtn. Nalini Ganapathy, YSD of Rotary HSR, as our chief guest. Participants included general body members, BOD’s and prospective members. The meeting began with an opening note by our president and our chief guest. Then the session started with the introduction of our trainer and a quick introduction of the members with a question, what does Rotaract mean to you? With varied response from everyone, the session went on to explain about the nature of Rotaract, a brief history of Rotary and significant events over the years along with the creation of Rotaract. Members were informed about the organisational structure of Rotary International, which RI Zone- District they are in, along with the hierarchy of important office bearers. Then we came to the organisational structure of our club. Members were introduced to their club’s core committee members, Board of Directors, and their responsibility. They learnt about the seven area of focus of every Rotaract club. Projects and events from the previous years were used as examples during this section for better understanding. Finally, the session came to an end with a fun activity; everyone got a chit with activities related to each avenue. Members had to identify which avenue they belong to on their own. Then, they grouped with others with the same avenue and were given five minutes to formulate an event or activity from their respective avenue and pitch their ideas. This encouraged communication, brainstorming and team building spirit among all participants to represent the synergy that Rotaract produces. Finally, day ended with the celebration of friendship day with our new found friends with a small cake cutting ceremony and reminding ourselves with our motto for the year, ~ Together We Can
