The topic for this year’s first discussion for change was “Encroachment and deforestation in Bangalore.” concerned on tackling encroachment and deforestation due to industrialization. The discussion started off by giving some insights and facts about sustainable urban development in Bangalore to the participants. The participants shared their views on the impact deforestation has on our environment and the importance of tackling it. The participants were allotted 5 minutes at the end to discuss among themselves and come up with innovative solutions to tackle the problem. One member from each group was then given 2 minutes to share their innovative ideas, alternatives and solutions. The groups came up with innovative solutions like competitions to come up with the best alternatives, going paperless, recycling and using recycling products, using renewable energy, and so on which could be implemented to tackle the problem.
