The S.P.A.W wing of the Rotaract Club organised a visit to Cubbon Park on 12th November, Sunday, for an event called "Paws in the Park." The primary objective was to spend quality time with pet dogs at "The Weekend Dog Park." The event aimed to provide a recreational and relaxing experience for both volunteers and club members. The chosen venue, "The Weekend Dog Park," provided an ideal setting for the event. The park is known for its pet-friendly atmosphere, allowing dogs and their owners to socialize, play, and relax. The spacious and well-maintained environment offered a perfect backdrop for the day's activities. To the surprise of the Rotaract Club members, the visit coincided with the celebration of the Kurkur Tihar festival. Originating from Hindu traditions in Nepal, Kukur Tihar is a unique festival dedicated to the worship of dogs. During this festival, people express gratitude to dogs, considering them as messengers of Yama, the god of death. The celebration involved various rituals, including offering treats to all dogs present, regardless of whether they were pets or strays. Additionally, participants adorned the dogs with tika on their foreheads and garlands of marigolds around their necks, symbolising respect and honor. The festival provided a cultural and spiritual dimension to the event, enriching the experience for everyone involved. “Paws in The Park” Several volunteers who attended the event brought their own pet animals, contributing to the diversity of the canine companions present. This added personal touch allowed for a more intimate and inclusive celebration of the Kurkur Tihar festival. "Paws in the Park" not only achieved its goal of providing a fun and relaxing time for volunteers and club members but also turned out to be an unexpected cultural experience with the Kukur Tihar festival. The event fostered a sense of community, understanding, and appreciation for diverse cultural practices. The Rotaract Club's S.P.A.W Wing's visit to Cubbon Park for "Paws in the Park" proved to be a delightful and enriching experience. The unexpected encounter with the Kurkur Tihar festival added a unique cultural dimension to the event, making it a memorable and meaningful day for all participants. The success of this event showcases the Rotaract Club's commitment to fostering community engagement, cultural awareness, and the well-being of both people and their beloved pets.
