Overview: The Rotaract Club of BMSCE successfully organised a Debate Competition on December 26, 2023, addressing the topic "Equality For All: Pros and Cons of Legalising LGBTQ+ rights in India." The event took place in the ISE Seminar Hall, located on the 5th Floor of PJ Block, BMS College of Engineering. Judges: Ms. Ramya K and Mr. Ankit A Shripatwar, both Assistant Professors at BMS College of Law, took on the responsibility of evaluating the participants' arguments and presentations, bringing their legal expertise to the event. Format: The debate followed an Isolation format, where two teams had the opportunity to present their arguments in front of the judges. Each team had a total of 6 minutes, with 4 minutes allocated for the opening statement and an additional 2 minutes for the rebuttal. Winners: After a series of rounds, two standout teams emerged victorious. The first-place team was awarded a prize of Rupees 2.5K, while the second-place team received a prize of Rupees 1.5K. Objective and Impact: The Debate Competition, categorised as a Professional Services avenue event, had a primary objective of nurturing essential skills among the student participants. Emphasis was placed on teamwork, presentation skills, time management, and the art of debating. By focusing on soft skills development, the event aimed to contribute to the holistic growth of the participating students, preparing them for future professional endeavours. In conclusion, the Rotaract Club of BMSCE successfully orchestrated a thoughtprovoking debate that not only delved into a critical social issue but also provided a platform for students to enhance their soft skills in a competitive yet supportive environment.
