On 12th July, Rotaract Club of Atria I.T. hosted "Recyclathon" where around 200 students gathered at Atria Institute of Technology for the walkathon dedicated to raising awareness about the environmental impact of plastic bag use and promoting sustainable alternatives. The event kicked off at 10 AM, with each student bringing along two handmade paper bags to distribute to local vendors and stores as part of the initiative. The walkathon began with the students taking a route around the college campus, proudly carrying banners and placards with messages such as "Say No to Plastic" and "Choose Paper, Save the Earth." The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as the students marched in unison, spreading the message of sustainability to everyone they encountered. As the students ventured beyond the college grounds, they visited local fruit and vegetable vendors, as well as various hawkers in the surrounding area. The handmade paper bags were distributed to these vendors, offering them a practical and eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. The interaction with the vendors provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of reducing plastic waste and the benefits of switching to more sustainable options. The hawkers and vendors received the paper bags with appreciation, and the students' efforts were met with positive feedback from the community. Many vendors expressed their willingness to consider using paper bags in the future, highlighting the impact that small, community-driven initiatives can have on fostering environmental change. After completing the distribution, the students returned to the college, where they gathered to reflect on the day's activities. The Recyclathon not only succeeded in promoting the ban on plastic bag use but also served as a practical demonstration of how individuals can contribute to environmental conservation through simple actions. Overall, the Recyclathon was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on both the participants and the local community. The event effectively raised awareness about the need to reduce plastic waste and encouraged more sustainable practices, showcasing the power of collective action in protecting the environment.
