As we approached the 78th Independence Day of our country, we sought to deepen our understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by our armed forces. It was a joint meeting of seven Rotary Clubs, including Rotary Koramangala, Rotary Bengaluru HSR, Rotary Silkcity Ramanagara, Rotary Bengaluru Ullal, Rotary Bangalore Bugle Rock, Rotary Bangalore City Center and one Rotaract club, i.e Rotaract Club of Koramangala Our distinguished speaker, Group Captain Janakiraman Balasubramanian SC VM, shared his extensive experience with the Indian Air Force. Commissioned on December 30, 1978, Group Captain Balasubramanian has held critical roles, including commanding the 33 Squadron and serving as Chief of Operations in Chandigarh. His remarkable service includes flying high-profile dignitaries, participating in the Sri Lankan conflict, and being a veteran of the Kargil conflict. His accolades include the Shaurya Chakra, Vayu Sena Medal, and a commendation by the Chief of Air Staff. During his presentation, Group Captain Balasubramanian detailed the role of the Indian Air Force during peacetime and conflict. His compelling recount of an Indian soldier’s bravery and the Balakot air strikes, enhanced by public domain videos, deeply moved the audience. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A moderated by Rtn. Nageshwar Vijapur, followed by a vote of thanks from Rtn. Shridhar. Special guests, including Lt Gov Rtn. Jaishankar, PDG Rtn. Rajendra Rai, and President Rtn. Ramanan, also actively participated.
