On Independence Day, August 15, the Rotaract Club of Atria I.T. launched a poignant online initiative to honor the lesser-known heroes of India’s independence struggle. Through Instagram stories, the club shared powerful narratives of individuals who made significant contributions to India’s freedom but are often overlooked in history. The tribute featured figures such as Kanaklata Barua, a 17-year-old martyr from Assam; Velu Nachiyar, the queen who led a rebellion against British rule in the 18th century; Aruna Asaf Ali, a prominent leader in the Quit India Movement; Matangini Hazra, a 73-year-old freedom fighter who died while leading a protest; and Durga Bhabhi, a revolutionary involved in key actions against British forces. This initiative was aimed at reigniting awareness of these forgotten heroes, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
