The Rotaract Club of Jyoti Nivas College, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Bengaluru United, Rotary Bengaluru Basavanagudi, and the Interact Club of Nalanda English School, organized a unique and eco-conscious celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi with the ECO GANAPATI initiative. This project aimed to merge the spirit of the festival with environmental responsibility, promoting sustainability in celebration. Held on September 5, 2024, from 9 AM to 2 PM at Nalanda English School in JP Nagar, the event brought together participants for a hands-on creative workshop where they crafted eco-friendly Ganesh idols using clay. The highlight of the workshop was that these idols were designed to be planted after immersion, allowing them to grow into small plants—a beautiful and symbolic way of honoring both Lord Ganesh and the environment. This initiative served as a creative and mindful solution to the environmental challenges caused by traditional idols made from non-biodegradable materials. The workshop was open to everyone, and no prior experience was necessary, ensuring that people of all ages could participate. All essential materials, such as clay, were provided, and participants were encouraged to bring everyday items from home like cardboard sheets, ice cream sticks, waste cloth, and pens to further personalize their creations. This not only minimized waste but also highlighted the importance of recycling and resourcefulness in day-to-day life. The process of making the idols was not only a fun, engaging activity but also a hands-on learning experience about environmental conservation. The children, along with their mentors, enjoyed every moment, taking pride in their sustainable creations while forming a deeper connection with the festival and nature. The success of this initiative lies not only in the Ganesh idols crafted but in the message it conveyed: that small actions, such as opting for eco-friendly alternatives, can make a big difference. This celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi was a reminder that traditions can evolve to become more harmonious with the environment, without losing their cultural significance. In conclusion, the ECO GANAPATI event was a perfect blend of creativity, education, and environmental awareness. It allowed participants to celebrate in a sustainable manner while fostering a sense of responsibility towards the planet. The day was filled with fun, learning, and a shared commitment to making a positive environmental impact during the festival season.
