On September 25th, at 7:30 PM, the Rotaract Club of Banashankari and Jain Evening College, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Jyoti Nivas College, hosted an enlightening workshop titled "Empower Her Health" on Cervical Cancer, led by Dr. Bhargavi Brahmakal, a specialized consultant in gynecology and sexual medicine. Dr. Bhargavi began by addressing various cancers affecting women, including breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. She emphasized the importance of self-breast examinations for younger women and mammograms for women over 40 to detect breast cancer. Regarding uterine cancer, she stressed vigilance for symptoms like postmenopausal bleeding, advising early detection through ultrasound. Ovarian cancer was highlighted as particularly dangerous due to its lack of early symptoms and absence of routine screening, often leading to late diagnoses. Dr. Bhargavi explained that it is one of the most severe cancers affecting women. The main focus of the workshop was cervical cancer, caused primarily by the human papillomavirus (HPV). She discussed symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, foul-smelling discharge, and abdominal pain, noting that early-stage cervical cancer may be asymptomatic. Dr. Bhargavi emphasized the importance of HPV vaccinations and regular screenings in preventing cervical cancer. Treatment options vary depending on the stage and may include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. The session provided invaluable insights into cancer prevention and early detection, empowering participants with critical knowledge to protect their health.
