BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Students from Government High School, Mayasandra were brought to the campus of BMS College of Engineering to expose them to the world of higher education and technology. The goal was to inspire students towards pursuing careers in engineering and technology by offering them hands-on experience and basic computer applications. EVENT DESCRIPTION: On 18th of September, students of 8th standard from Government High School, Mayasandra were brought to BMSCE Campus. The students were then taken to Computer Lab in the campus and then were taught with basics of Computer, MS Word and MS Paint. MS Word: Students were given a brief introduction about what are components they see and can use just after opening the software They were taught basic typing, font formatting, alignment. MS Paint: Students were introduced about Digital Drawing and the software which we were about to use Students were taught about basic tools in the software like Brush Tool, Pencil Tool, Eraser Tool, Paint Bucket, Text Box and Shape Tool. They were helped to draw a basic home in the software using the above tools with the help of the volunteers. The session was interactive, with students actively participating and asking questions. Each student was given a chance to work on a computer to practice what they had learned. After this event, students were taken to a campus tour, led by the faculty members and student volunteers. Students were shown various important sections of the campus, which majorly focused on the engineering laboratories. The students visited the Mechanical, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry and many more labs, where they were introduced to how the equipment operates. Faculty members and student guides explained how practical projects are carried out and demonstrated key experiments and machinery, such as 3D printers and robotics equipment. This immersive tour was aimed at sparking curiosity and motivation among the school students by showing them real-life engineering applications. SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS: Interactive Session: Students not only just listened to the theory said by the faculty or volunteers, but they were also made to involve in the demonstration by letting them use the equipment. Fun and Engaging: The students never felt bored, as the content we showed and explained them were really interesting and useful. Students had a smile on their face when they learnt something new. IMPACT ON ATTENDEES: Basics of Computer and productivity software: Students learnt about computer and its positive uses. They even learnt about the practical uses of the productivity software which were introduced to them. A glimpse into students’ future: Students who would have a dream to be an engineer were benefitted by the event since they had a real good exposure to the environment. It helped to the students who also didn’t have any future plans about their career.
