The Rotaract Club of GNITS, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Jyoti Nivas College, conducted an insightful workshop titled "Silver Linings: A Symposium on the Role of Youth in Elderly Care." The event aimed to raise awareness about the significant impact that the younger generation can have on improving the lives of the elderly. The workshop provided a platform for discussing innovative approaches and solutions to enhance elderly care through youth engagement. The session featured Dr. Radha Ramana Murthy Gokula, a board-certified physician specializing in family medicine, geriatrics, and lifestyle medicine. He is also the founder of Concierge Connected Care, which focuses on patient-centered healthcare to promote wellness and vitality. Dr. Gokula's expertise in preventive care made him a valuable speaker for this important topic. Dr. Gokula began by discussing the concept of "Silver Linings," emphasizing that despite challenges faced by the elderly, there is always hope for a better future. He articulated how GenZ represents this hope and can play a crucial role in supporting older generations. He pointed out the distinction between "healthcare" and "sickcare," urging the importance of preventive measures and lifestyle changes to promote overall well-being. Throughout the session, Dr. Gokula encouraged the youth to connect with their inner light of hope and emphasized the significance of urban solutions in elderly care. He introduced the "Six Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine" and discussed community health outcomes, illustrating these concepts through a relevant case study. This real-world example demonstrated the impact of well-implemented elderly care interventions. He also shared dietary recommendations for a healthy lifestyle. A significant highlight of the workshop was the introduction of the STAYHOME initiative, which aims to integrate medicine and technology to help elders live safely and comfortably at home. Dr. Gokula emphasized the importance of love and connection, arguing against societal divisions based on religion, race, caste, and color. He inspired the youth to adopt a social entrepreneurial mindset, emphasizing that financial sustainability is essential for driving positive change. In addition to discussing virtual companionship and its benefits, He also proposed actionable steps for launching a nationwide movement to support elderly care. These included awareness campaigns on social media, developing a mobile app to coordinate volunteer efforts, and collaborating with educational institutions. The workshop concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing participants to interact directly with the speaker. The session was highly informative and inspiring, leaving attendees with a deeper understanding of the essential role that youth can play in enhancing the well-being of the elderly. The insights shared not only emphasized the need for active involvement but also encouraged innovative thinking around solutions for elderly care.
