Rotaract Club of Mount Carmel College organized a Kanya Pooja celebration for the girls of Samartha Girls Home, a community initiative aimed at deepening their connection to Indian culture and traditions. This event provided a platform for these young girls, each with an inspiring story of resilience, to feel valued and celebrated within a supportive community. The celebration took place at a Durga Pooja pandal, where the Durgotsav Committee of Purva Skywood sponsored the event. Here, the girls participated in the traditional Kanya Pooja rituals, an important cultural practice that honors young girls as embodiments of the goddess. Volunteers from the Rotaract Club joined to perform the rituals alongside them, further nurturing a sense of belonging and respect. Following the pooja, the girls were presented with gifts, and they had the opportunity to showcase their talents through a dance performance in front of the goddess. Lunch was provided for all the girls and volunteers, fostering camaraderie and joy within the community. A unique aspect of the celebration was a dedicated space for the girls to sell hand-painted diyas, which they crafted themselves. This initiative empowered them with the means to raise funds independently, allowing them to celebrate Diwali with resources they had earned. Through this experience, the girls not only embraced their cultural roots but also gained a sense of accomplishment and community support, enriching their lives in meaningful ways.
