The Rotaract Club of Dyal Singh College in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Jyoti Nivas College, organized an enlightening event titled Legal Rights: Illuminating Rights, to celebrate National Legal Services Day. This initiative aimed to empower participants with essential legal knowledge, helping them navigate their rights effectively. Adv. Suchismita Sanyal, a dedicated advocate specializing in criminal and family law, led the session. Her extensive experience in socio-legal platforms and commitment to women's empowerment added immense value. The objectives of this project were to increase awareness of legal rights among participants, to provide insights into the Indian legal system and the Constitution, to foster a deeper understanding of Fundamental Rights and their significance. The session included explanation of the historical context of Indian law, highlighting its roots in British law, discussion on the Constitution of India as a guiding document, akin to a 'holy bible' for citizens, exploration of the Constitution’s basic structure: sovereign, secular, socialist, democratic, and republic, interactive segment where participants identified and discussed Fundamental Rights, demonstrating their knowledge and engagement, detailed explanation of the Preamble of the Constitution, emphasizing its significance and historical context. This initiative not only educated participants about their legal rights but also encouraged active participation and dialogue, fostering a community more aware of their legal entitlements. The success of the session underscores the importance of such educational initiatives in promoting legal literacy and empowerment among youth.
