Phase 1 of Pages of Hope commenced with a 15-day collection drive aimed at gathering used notebooks with unused pages. The Rotaract Club of Mount Carmel College (RaCMCC) spearheaded the initiative, collecting over 100 partially used notebooks from students, faculty, and the community. In a significant show of support, the Rotaract Club of Jyoti Nivas College collaborated with RaCMCC by contributing 40+ used notebooks. The project involved carefully tearing out the unused pages from the donated notebooks, which were then repurposed into new books. This process not only promoted sustainability by reducing paper waste but also aimed to provide educational resources to underprivileged students. During this phase, a team of volunteers conducted a survey in the slums near KR Market in Bangalore. The objective was to identify areas and students who would benefit most from the repurposed books. Through this survey, the team gained valuable insights into the educational needs of children living in these communities. The project has taken a significant step toward making quality education accessible to underprivileged children, while also promoting environmental consciousness through the recycling of resources.
