The Planet Voices Symposium was held on 16th November 2024 at St. Joseph’s School Auditorium, Bangalore, as part of the celebrations for World Interact Week. Organized by Rotary Bangalore Orchards and supported by the Rotaract Club of Bangalore Orchards, the symposium aimed to empower youth in climate advocacy and environmental stewardship. With an impressive attendance of 555 interactors from schools across Bangalore, the event served as a platform to educate, inspire, and mobilize the next generation of changemakers. The highlight of the event was Rotary Bangalore Orchards’ flagship project: the ambitious initiative to revive 1,000 acres of barren and dry land under the leadership of Rtn. Neil Joseph. This visionary project, which seeks to transform desolate land into green, sustainable spaces, was a key focal point of the discussions. Participants were introduced to the significance of this initiative as a practical demonstration of addressing climate change through reforestation and land rehabilitation. Rtn. Neil Joseph’s efforts underscored the importance of community-driven action and long-term commitment to sustainability, serving as a powerful example of how environmental challenges can be met with innovative solutions and collective effort. The symposium’s theme, “Climate Change and Its Impact on Karnataka,” resonated strongly with participants, shedding light on the region's unique environmental challenges. The sessions explored actionable strategies to address these challenges and provided young minds with tools to make a difference. The opening remarks by Pravin Hungund, Indian Administrative Fellow, RDPR, Government of Karnataka, and President of Rotary Bengaluru Harmony, emphasized the vital role of youth in addressing the climate crisis. His speech set the stage for a day filled with insightful discussions and collaborative learning. The event featured prominent speakers, including Marwan Abubaker, Co-founder of Hasiru Dala Innovations, who shared expertise on waste management as a tool for building climate resilience, and Archana Tripathi, CEO of Saahas, who spoke about adopting sustainable practices for everyday living. S.S. Iyengar, a renowned scientist, captivated the audience with an engaging session on the science of climate change and the transformative power of youth in leading environmental reforms. Together, these sessions empowered participants with knowledge and inspired action, all while linking back to Rotary Bangalore Orchards’ transformative project. Interactive breakout sessions allowed participants to brainstorm solutions and explore projects inspired by the Rotary initiative to rejuvenate barren land. These discussions not only educated students on the science and impact of climate change but also encouraged them to think critically about their own communities’ environmental needs. The event agenda included workshops, keynote addresses, and collaborative activities, ensuring participants left with a deeper understanding of climate issues and practical solutions. Certificates were distributed to acknowledge the dedication of the young leaders, reinforcing their commitment to environmental advocacy. The Planet Voices Symposium was a resounding success, inspiring youth to take an active role in addressing environmental challenges. The 1,000-acre land development project, championed by Rtn. Neil Joseph, stood as a shining example of Rotary Bangalore Orchards’ commitment to sustainable practices. This initiative not only captured the imagination of the participants but also demonstrated the impact of large-scale environmental action in mitigating climate change. Special recognition was given to the Interact Club of Bangalore Palmville, the concept initiators, and the supporting Rotary Clubs, including Bangalore South Parade, IT Corridor, Highgrounds, Harmony, and Koramangala, for their invaluable contributions to the event. Also would like to thank and appreciate, rotaractors of Rotaract Club of South End, MCC South parade and other clubs for volunteering and supporting for the success of the event. The Planet Voices Symposium celebrated World Interact Week while highlighting Rotary Bangalore Orchards' exceptional efforts in sustainability and reforestation. It successfully empowered 555 interactors to think globally and act locally, leaving an enduring legacy of environmental consciousness. This event not only inspired young leaders but also reinforced Rotary’s role as a catalyst for meaningful change in creating a greener, more sustainable future.
