BRIEF DESCRIPTION: "Khushiyon ka Dabba" is a weekly food donation drive aimed at providing leftover food from Paying Guest hostels (PGs) to the underserved community in Kempegowda Nagar slum area. The initiative focuses on reducing food wastage while addressing hunger in the local community EVENT DESCRIPTION: "Khushiyon ka Dabba" was launched on January 17, 2025, as a part of a food donation initiative under the community service avenue. The event takes place every Friday around 3 PM, where we collect leftover food from 4 different branches of “Second Home PG”, package it, and distribute it among the people of Kempegowda Nagar, a slum area in need of support. This is the First Month of this event which began with a simple initiative—to repurpose leftover food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those who need it the most. On the first day, we served Pulao with raita, followed by Ghee Rice on the second week, and Anna Sambar, Chapathi Dal on the third. Each week, we work together to ensure the food is safely collected, packaged, and distributed, with the care to maintain hygiene and quality. The backend work involves coordinating with "Second Home PG" to collect the leftover food, ensuring the logistics of packing and transporting the food are efficient. We stand to develop strong relationships with the PGs, who have shown consistent support by contributing leftover meals every Friday. SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS: Weekly consistency: Ensuring a reliable supply of food from PGs, maintaining a weekly schedule. Diverse meals: Serving different types of meals each week, ensuring variety and nutritional balance for the recipients. Community support: Strong local partnerships with PG hostels and the slum community. IMPACT ON ATTENDEES: The food distribution event brought relief to slum residents, offering meals that would otherwise go to waste. It not only addressed immediate hunger but also contributed to a sense of community. This initiative helped strengthen connections between us and the recipients. The smiles of the attendees showed the immediate impact, providing them with a nutritious meal they might not have had access to otherwise. BEHIND THE SCENES: The major coordination is with "Second Home PG" to collect leftover food from their four branches every Friday. Once collected, it is packaged into individual packets while ensuring hygiene. The packed food is then taken over to the slum area on our bikes. The process is streamlined each week, maintaining the efficiency from food collection to distribution. The goal is to maintain organization and ensure the food reaches those in need without delay.
