Rotaract Bangalore South Parade (RBSP) actively participated in Project Suraksha (Phase 1), an initiative by Rotaract District 3191 in collaboration with MAYA, aimed at raising awareness about Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) among school students in Bengaluru. This transformative project seeks to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves while fostering a safe environment for discussions on sensitive topics. The key focus areas of Project Suraksha include understanding safe and unsafe touch, coping mechanisms for distressing situations, reporting channels and whom to approach for help, and building self-confidence to speak up. Phase 1 of the project involved an extensive "Train the Trainers" session conducted by experts from MAYA. This highly interactive session provided valuable insights into how to approach conversations with children on CSA, ensuring they feel safe and understood. Participants were presented with real-life scenarios, case studies, and thought-provoking discussions that challenged their perceptions and responses to such situations. The trainers also facilitated open-ended discussions, encouraging attendees to reflect on their own approach and biases. One of the most impactful elements of the session was learning how to educate children on good touch and bad touch using creative methods like storytelling, skits, and poster creation. The session proved to be an eye-opener, leaving everyone better prepared for the next phase. Phase 2 will involve conducting awareness sessions in government schools, where trained volunteers will directly engage with children, creating a lasting impact under the guidance of MAYA experts.
