On 26th February 2025, the Rotaract Club of Dyal Singh College, RID 3012, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of SVVV, RID 3040, successfully organized an online session titled "Echoes of the Cosmos: Astronomy Before Telescopes." The event was conducted via Google Meet from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and featured Yash, a final-year MSc Physics student from Ramjas College, University of Delhi, as the speaker. A passionate astrophile, Yash shared his knowledge on how ancient civilizations contributed to the field of astronomy long before the invention of modern instruments. The session focused on the remarkable achievements of Ancient Greek Astronomy, where early philosophers and scholars developed theories about celestial movements and the structure of the universe. The speaker also highlighted significant contributions from Ancient Chinese Astronomy, known for some of the earliest recorded observations of celestial events like comets and solar eclipses. Additionally, Yash shed light on the astronomical practices of Indus Valley Civilization and Vedic India, where early scholars created advanced calendars, studied planetary motions, and explored cosmic concepts through ancient texts. The event proved to be highly informative and engaging, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of how ancient cultures observed the night sky and laid the foundation for the field of astronomy. Through this session, participants gained valuable insights into the timeless human curiosity about the cosmos and the legacy of early astronomical discoveries.
