The program was held at a local government school in Jayanagar, where a diverse group of students participated. The training session was designed to be interactive and engaging, ensuring that participants not only understood the critical content but also felt comfortable discussing sensitive topics related to personal safety. ▎Objectives of the Program The primary objectives of the Surakshaa training program included: 1. Awareness: To educate students about the differences between good touches (those that are safe and appropriate) and bad touches (those that are harmful or inappropriate). 2. Empowerment: To empower students with the knowledge and confidence to speak up if they ever feel uncomfortable or threatened. 3. Communication Skills: To encourage open dialogue among students regarding their feelings and experiences related to personal safety. 4. Resource Awareness: To inform students about available resources and support systems should they encounter situations involving bad touches. ▎Program Structure The training session began with an introductory discussion led by experienced facilitators from Surakshaa and the Maya Team. They emphasized the importance of personal safety and the role of education in preventing abuse. The facilitators used age-appropriate language and relatable examples to ensure that all students could grasp the concepts being presented. The program included several interactive components, such as: • Role-Playing Activities: Students participated in role-playing scenarios that illustrated different types of touches. This hands-on approach allowed them to practice identifying good and bad touches in a safe environment. • Group Discussions: Students were divided into small groups to discuss their thoughts and feelings about personal boundaries. This encouraged them to share experiences and learn from one another. • Visual Aids: The use of posters and visual aids helped reinforce key messages about body autonomy and consent. ▎Outcomes The training program concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to clarify any doubts they had. Feedback from participants indicated that they found the session both informative and empowering. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about such an important topic in a supportive setting.
