The Consumer Smarts event, organized by the Rotaract Club of Mount Carmel College in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of NMIMS, was an eye-opening and engaging session designed to empower participants with the knowledge they need about consumer rights and fraud prevention. Held on March 17, 2025, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Google Meet, this event aimed to educate attendees on the importance of understanding consumer rights in today's digital world. Hosted by Rtr. Anushree from the Rotaract Club of Mount Carmel College, the session kicked off with a warm welcome and introduction of the session to set the tone for an engaging discussion. The spotlight then shifted to our esteemed speakers, Miss Tejashwini Neeralakeri and Miss Vishakha Burnwal, both experts with hands-on experience working in top law firms and published research in consumer law. They guided us through a crisp and visually informative presentation on the 6 fundamental consumer rights, offering real-life examples to help participants identify frauds and scams. The session also included an interactive segment where participants actively analyzed scenarios of fake ads, scam texts, and misleading claims, testing their ability to spot fraud. Following the presentation, the floor was opened for a Q&A session, giving participants the chance to ask questions, share personal experiences, and gain further insights from the experts. The session concluded with a Consumer Awareness Pledge, encouraging everyone to stay vigilant and informed. To wrap up the event, a screenshot was captured to commemorate the memorable session, and a heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Rtr. Athoibi. Overall, Consumer Smarts was a great success, leaving all participants more confident and informed about how to navigate the world of consumerism and avoid falling for online scams.
