E-Waste Collection Drive

BMS College of Engineering, Basavanagudi

Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: An initiative to promote responsible disposal of electronic waste, the E-Waste Collection Drive encouraged students and faculty to contribute old and unused electronics for safe recycling. EVENT DESCRIPTION: The E-Waste Collection Drive was held over a span of three days from April 15 to 17 at BMSCE, aiming to raise awareness on the importance of proper e-waste management. The event was set up in a central location—opposite Audi 1, PJ Block—where students and faculty could drop off their e-waste items such as old mobile phones, cables, chargers, laptops, and other electronic accessories. Despite being a small-scale event with one core volunteer, the drive received encouraging participation. The team ensured the collected items were stored safely and later handed over to an authorized recycler. The placement of informative posters and student volunteers actively explaining the cause helped in increasing awareness. SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS: - Entirely student-led with efficient execution. - Overwhelming response from students and faculty despite minimal promotion. - Safe disposal arranged through a certified recycler. IMPACT ON ATTENDEES: Attendees became more conscious of how to dispose of electronic waste. Many expressed appreciation for the initiative and showed interest in participating in similar drives in the future. BEHIND THE SCENES (INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS): Rtr. Hemanth Sagar coordinated with Rtr. Chinmayee from BMSCE IEEE PES and Sensors Club led the collection drive together. Their collaboration ensured smooth execution of the event, handling responsibilities like logistics, permissions, and promotion efficiently despite limited resources.
