Project Description: “Code Red” is a flagship monthly menstrual health initiative by the Rotaract Club of Bangalore Revolution (RACBR), dedicated to ensuring menstrual dignity, hygiene, and awareness in underprivileged and remote communities. As part of this ongoing program, the club has launched a sustained outreach in Ringui Village, Manipur, a region where access to menstrual products is scarce, and age-old stigmas still prevail. Through this initiative, RACBR has committed to sending sanitary pads every month via Speed Post to ensure 1,000 women and adolescent girls in the village have continuous access to safe menstrual hygiene products. Ground Realities Discovered: During initial interactions with the community, RACBR learned that women in Ringui Village still use and reuse cloth pieces during their periods—often drying them indoors in dark, damp areas, which poses serious health risks including infections and rashes. This practice stems from both economic constraints and cultural stigma that prevent women from openly drying menstrual cloths in sunlight or accessing commercial sanitary products. Objectives: To ensure monthly access to sanitary pads for 1,000 menstruators in Ringui Village. To eliminate the use of unhygienic cloths and reduce infection risks. To educate women and girls on menstrual hygiene and safe practices. To break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation in remote tribal regions. To establish a sustainable, respectful support system through consistent outreach. Key Activities: Monthly procurement and shipment of sanitary pads via Speed Post from Bangalore to Manipur. Hygiene kits include: Disposable sanitary pads Soap or sanitizer Educational leaflets on hygiene, usage, and disposal Partnership with local volunteers for monthly distribution and feedback collection. Awareness sessions conducted periodically (in-person by locals and virtually by RACBR) focusing on: Safe menstrual hygiene Correct disposal methods Dispelling taboos and empowering menstruators Impact So Far: 1,000+ women and girls supported, with the commitment to continue monthly support. Replacing unsafe menstrual practices with hygienic alternatives. Building a sustainable bridge between urban support and rural needs. Initiating a cultural shift by empowering menstruators with dignity, education, and choice. Ongoing Commitment: Code Red in Ringui is not a one-time donation—it is a monthly promise. A promise to show up, to care, and to support menstrual health in areas where it's often forgotten. Through continuous pad distribution and education, RACBR envisions a future where every woman bleeds without shame, fear, or pain—no matter where she lives.
