Binaca Geetmala Silver Jubilee Celebration
🎶 Binaca Geetmala – A Melodic Tribute to the Golden Era
Hosted at CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) | Organized by Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC)
In a time where trends change in the blink of an eye, Binaca Geetmala was a beautiful reminder of the timeless charm of Indian music. Hosted at CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) and organized by Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC), this nostalgic event transported attendees back to the golden age of Bollywood — with melodies from the 1960s and 1970s taking center stage.
🎤 Reviving a Radio Legacy
Inspired by the legendary radio countdown show hosted by Ameen Sayani, Binaca Geetmala recreated the magic of a bygone era where music wasn’t just entertainment — it was an emotion shared across generations. With vintage decor, retro costumes, and iconic songs echoing through the halls, the event brought together music lovers from all walks of life.
🌟 A Crowd that Sang with Heart
One of the most remarkable highlights of the evening was the overwhelming response to the 60s and 70s segment, which saw participation from more than 200 people. From humming along to Lag Ja Gale to clapping in rhythm to Mere Sapno Ki Rani, the crowd was immersed in a musical journey that transcended time.
Performers delivered stunning renditions of songs by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhosale, and more, captivating both young and senior audiences. The retro-themed costume contest and old-Bollywood trivia added a fun, interactive flair to the evening.
💡 Music for a Cause
Beyond the melodies and memories, Binaca Geetmala carried a greater purpose — all proceeds from the event were directed towards the EPIC Program, an Epilepsy Awareness and Screening Initiative undertaken by RBITC.
The EPIC program focuses on:
Educating communities about epilepsy
Dispelling myths and stigma associated with the condition
Providing early screening and support for affected individuals
Through this event, music became a medium not just for celebration, but for social impact — showcasing how culture and community can work hand-in-hand for change.
🤝 Bridging Generations Through Harmony
The event was a beautiful blend of fellowship, nostalgia, and purpose. Students, Rotaractors, Rotarians, and faculty joined hands in creating an evening that honored musical heritage while contributing to a meaningful cause. Storytelling sessions, throwback installations, and a live radio-style emcee helped bring the Binaca Geetmala magic to life.
💬 Reflections
“I haven’t sung these songs in years — it felt like home,” said a senior attendee.
“I didn’t grow up in that era, but tonight I understood why those songs still live on,” shared a student performer.
“Knowing that we were singing for a cause made it even more special,” added a Rotaractor volunteer.
📸 Memories and Moments
The event concluded with a group retro singalong, a thank-you segment for the organizing team, and a celebration of how art can heal, connect, and empower. Photos from the evening captured not just costumes and decor, but the genuine joy and unity in the room.
Binaca Geetmala at CMRIT, presented by RBITC, was more than just a tribute to music. It was a heartfelt convergence of nostalgia, creativity, and community spirit — with a meaningful mission at its heart. Through music, the event helped shine a light on epilepsy awareness, and in doing so, created ripples of change far beyond the stage.
