The Rotaract Club of KSSEM, in collaboration with Rotaract District 3191, organized a "Waste Collection Drive" aimed at promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste management within the community. Held at the KSSEM Ground, the drive invited citizens to drop off a variety of dry, recyclable, and reusable items between 9 AM and 1 PM. This event served as a platform for community members to dispose of waste items in an eco-friendly way while encouraging them to embrace sustainable habits.
The collection list was extensive, covering various categories to ensure inclusivity for different types of waste. Items collected included notebooks, cardboard, e-waste, cigarette butts, art supplies, human hair, plastic bottles, clothes, metal containers, mattresses, shoes, slippers, tetra packs, furniture, toys, and backpacks. By accepting such a wide range of materials, the drive aimed to address the issue of waste at multiple levels—household, educational, and personal.
The primary goals of the drive were to raise awareness about waste segregation and recycling, create links between the community and local waste aggregators, and foster collaboration with local authorities to build a stronger, eco-conscious community. Additionally, by repurposing collected items, the drive intended to reduce the pressure on landfills, contributing to a cleaner environment.
Overall, this initiative by the Rotaract Club of KSSEM was a call to action for citizens to rethink their waste disposal practices, making sustainability an accessible and achievable goal for the entire community.
