Some of the famous movie dialogues were displayed and then the members were shown the images of the actor or actress who had portrayed the character. It was very humorous to see them pronounce the dialogues and guess the stars . The activity arranged for us was to read out the famous tongue twisters in Sinhalese . It was a hard time pronouncing the words and parallelly fun to hear . we surely enjoyed it a lot . There was a special segment for Rotasia where Rtn.Hemanth Bekkal , project chair , Rotasia gave us all the important insights of the event and presented the beautiful enthralling video of the Rotasia events and venue .

Friendship Day Fundraiser

Friendship day 2023 was indeed a special one for RACBCWCC and BOD Members . We had stalls at our college selling customised name friendship bands made with colourful beads and pearls .These were the most beautiful bands till now and kudos to the talented team for making it on the spot. Friends gifted eachother name bracelets and also got friendship name bands . A hair braiding stall also set up with colourful satin ribbons . Friends twinned with each other getting the same braids done . Satin ribbon braiding is very stylish and funky and popular amongst the college students . Next we had a very cute stall called "friendship imprints" where students and teachers imprinted their finger prints on a small piece of paper and our volunteers doodled them into cute characters . They kept this as a token of friendship in their phone cases and enjoyed the process . The very intersting thing of the fundraiser was "pen pal" where students and teachers wrote anonymous letters to their friends in campus . Our volunteers helped them decorate their letters and deliver it anonymously accross the college . No event is complete at cottons without food . So for our hunger pals we had some hot sizzling pizza's. Our volunteers customised the pizza according to the customers preference and come crunchy ,tasty nachos with flavourful dips and vegetables. All of the BOD Members twinned in pink colour outfits to celebrate friendship day .

Candle Making Workshop

Diwali Candle making workshop was held on 10th November 2023 in the Nutrition lab of BCWCC.There were a total of 16 participants and 5 volunteers for the event. • A fun and interactive hands - on session wherein the Rotaractors were taught to make water based candles. • Materials used for the workshop were safe and easy to work with. All the materials used are easily sourced and affordable keeping in mind that there is scope for innovation wherein the participants can continue to use the methodology taught for their further individual use to make the candles. All the old glass jars were reused for this event making it environmental friendly . • Water candles are made from water and oil. They are extremely inexpensive to make because they are mostly water and don't use very much oil. A small amount of oil on top of the water can burn for 3 hours, making these much cheaper than wax candles. Simply top off the oil and keep on burning. • A significant reason why we opted for a water candle is that it is an alternative to wax candles, because of the carcinogens that are created when paraffin wax (a petroleum waste product) is burned, it creates highly toxic benzene and toluene that may not be directly hazardous but may affect our health in the long run.

Mehendi Mela

Amidst the vibrant hues of Diwali, our college's Treasury Department orchestrated a Mehendi Mela on the date of October 10, 2023. Picture this: a kaleidoscope of colors and the faint fragrance of Mehendi in the air, as 8 passionate volunteers transformed the campus into a canvas of tradition and festivity. In the heart of this Mela, Mehendi wasn't just an art form; it was a cultural tapestry, weaving tales of joy and tradition. The intricate patterns applied by our volunteers weren't mere designs; they were expressions of the rich heritage that Diwali encapsulates. Mehendi, with its deep-rooted symbolism in Indian culture, signifies love, prosperity, and the celebratory spirit that defines Diwali. As the Mehendi adorned the hands of students, it wasn't just about aesthetics but a connection to centuries-old customs. Each stroke of Mehendi echoed the essence of Diwali, bringing forth the collective celebration of light and prosperity. Beyond the ornate designs, the Mehendi Mela became a stage where cultural traditions and fundraising danced hand in hand, leaving an indelible mark on our college's tapestry of memories. It also helped us raise funds for diwali outreach programs .

Summer Camp

Summer vacations are a time to discover fun learning experiences. We had organised some fun workshops in Summer Camp of YWCA school. We volunteered for 2 days of the Summer camp. The day one workshop was to teach the kids block printing and vegetable printing. We got square handkerchiefs , wooden blocks and vegetables like Lady finger, onion, potato carved into various shaped and fabric colours so that the kids would make colourful patterns according to their imagination. The volunteers had demonstrated a sample and the kids followed the method of printing . The little munchkins made beautiful prints and enjoyed the process a lot with sometimes even painting their classmates shirt. The day 2 was wonder from waste - in this they were thought to make a biodegradable dustbin from old newspapers . This would help them in the right disposal of waste and keep their surroundings clean. The origami techniques were applied to teach this bin making from newspapers paper with slight slower instructions and live demo the kids could execute the process and turn the waste news papers to a useful DIY craft. These real life skills will help them achieve their developmental goals and increase their productivity and thought process towards a more sustainable way of living.
